Driver strikes, kills tracked mountain lion on Highway 1 in Pacifica

A mountain lion that had a tracker died after being hit by a car Friday morning along state Highway 1 in Pacifica, authorities said.

The mountain lion was found about 7:30 a.m. on the shoulder of northbound lanes near the Skyline Boulevard off-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol. The vehicle that hit the animal apparently didn’t stop.

The mountain lion had a tracker and state fish and wildlife officials were notified, the CHP said.

No information was immediately available on when or where the tracker was placed on the animal.
