San Francisco residents will finally be able to get that haircut as soon as Monday.
Officials said Thursday that the California Department of Public Health granted The City’s variance that allows to move forward in reopening hair salons, barbershops, nail salons, massage and tattoo parlors, outdoor bars, indoor museums and zoos with modified safety measures.
City officials submitted paperwork to the state earlier this week requesting permission to reopen businesses with more flexibility.
Department of Public Health Director Dr. Grant Colfax said in a statement:
“We are grateful for the State’s recognition that San Francisco has been slowing the spread of coronavirus and currently is ready to manage a possible surge in cases.”
Colfax said that Covid-19 threat will continue to be a concern for the foreseeable future and that residents should continue to wear face masks, practice social distancing and to stay home when feeling sick.
He added that health officials are continually monitoring health indicators as more businesses are allowed to reopen.
Mayor London Breed and Board of Supervisors President Norman Yee visited the San Francisco Zoo, which is scheduled to reopen with new safety measures now that the variance has been granted.
As of Thursday night, the public health department reported a total of 3,927 confirmed cases and 48 deaths related to the virus.
