Police say man killed in crash was speeding when vehicle struck trees off Almaden Expressway

A man died when his vehicle crashed into trees off of Almaden Expressway in San Jose early Tuesday morning, according to police.

Officers responded at 2:12 a.m. to the crash reported in the area of Almaden Expressway and Redmond Avenue.

Investigators determined the driver of a 2006 black Acura Integra was speeding south when the car went off the roadway and struck two trees. The Acura’s lone occupant, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The crash prompted the closure of all southbound lanes of Almaden Expressway in the area, and the roadway is expected to remain closed until 9:30 a.m., according to police.

The man is the 24th person to die in a crash on San Jose city streets in 2020. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Detective Eliseo Malvido at (408) 277-4654.
