Santa Rosa structure fire causes $250,000 in damage to home, two vehicles

A structure fire in Santa Rosa on Thursday did an estimated $250,000 in damage to a residence.

Firefighters with the Santa Rosa Fire Department responded Thursday at 6:19 p.m. to 5342 Monte Verde Drive on a report of a residential structure fire.

Responding firefighters found a fire in the attached garage of a two-story residence and smoke coming the attic.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in about 30 minutes.

Investigators determined the cause of the fire was a barbecue that was in use at the rear of the house.

The occupants of the residence were alerted to the fire by neighbors and initially tried to extinguish the fire prior to the arrival of the fire department.

One of the residents suffered minor burns during the incident but refused medical care.

Two vehicles in the garage sustained fire damage as well.

The residents were able to remain at the home in a separate living area, according to the fire department.
