Vacant Bethel Island restaurant goes up in flames

A vacant restaurant building was destroyed in a fire Saturday evening in the unincorporated community of Bethel Island, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District said.

The fire was reported shortly before 7 p.m. at Gateway and North Stone roads and had spread to vegetation.

Crews were able to contain the fire to the former Frank’s Cove restaurant building and extinguish the grass fire.

The building damage is estimated at $320,000, officials said.

There were no injuries reported.
