Shooting injures two security guards downtown Oakland, police say appears unrelated to protest

Oakland police said they are investigating a shooting that injured two security guards Friday night in downtown Oakland, a case that police said appears to be unrelated to a large protest nearby about a police killing in Minneapolis earlier this week.

UPDATE 5/30 One of two Homeland Security officers shot in Friday drive-by dies.

Police wrote on Twitter shortly after 10 p.m. about the shooting, which they said happened in the area of 12th and Clay streets.

No other information about the case was immediately available.

Protesters have shut down roadways and public transit in downtown Oakland on Friday night over the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police on Monday.
