The Contra Costa County coroner’s office has identified 40-year-old Concord resident Luis Rabanal-Smith as the man who died in a two-vehicle collision on southbound Interstate Highway 680 in San Ramon on Saturday night.
The crash was reported at about 8 p.m. Saturday about a quarter-mile north of the Bollinger Canyon Road off-ramp from southbound Highway 680, according to the California Highway Patrol.
One vehicle ended up in the far right traffic lane and the other ended up on the right-hand shoulder. Rabanal-Smith was trapped in one of the vehicles when CHP officers and paramedics arrived.
A GoFundMe page created at https://www.gofundme.com/f/por-polly-nicolas-e-hijos to help Rabanal’s family had gathered nearly $16,000 as of Tuesday morning.
In comments on GoFundMe and Facebook, friends and family described him as a dedicated father and talented keyboardist who actively played in a heavy metal cover band.
