A reckless driving suspect allegedly threw a submachine gun out a window during a police chase Sunday night in Pittsburg, officials said.
Officers spotted a car driving recklessly in the area of Rose Ann Avenue and W. 17th Street and when the driver saw them, the fully automatic weapon was tossed out the window and the car sped off, Pittsburg police said on social media.
The suspect lost control on Power Avenue and crashed into several apartments at the Belmont Apartments, according to police.
The driver, whose name was not released, was hospitalized and later booked into the Contra Costa County Jail.
No other injuries were reported.
