The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency announced Thursday the return of the 9R-San Bruno line and increased frequency on other bus routes.
The transit agency said on its website the changes in service beginning Saturday are intended to help passengers make essential business trips while providing passengers with physical distancing space. Officials said they are using ridership data to determine which bus routes should be ramped up.
The following routes will see weekday service increases: 8-Bayshore, 14R-Mission, 22-Fillmore, 38-Geary, 49-Van Ness/Mission, N bus and T bus. Buses will arrive within 10 minutes or less on all lines.
The transit agency said:
“We are able to deliver these changes because our staffing availability has improved, and we have implemented additional bus cleaning programs.”
SFMTA spokesperson Erica Kato said availability has increased for operators and staff who clean buses. The agency will restore the 9R Monday to alleviate crowding and add service to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.
The 9R will run approximately every 10 minutes on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The SFMTA Board of Directors will be updated on the agency’s recovery process during its regular Tuesday meeting.
