De Anza High School in Richmond, Calif. is part of the West Contra Costa Unified School District seeking $1.3 million to shore up the Covid-19 Rapid Response Fund.
The West Contra Costa Education Fund along with the West Contra Costa Unified School District has raised more than $350,000 to support students and families as they struggle with closed schools during the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The district and the education fund organization are hoping to raise a total of $1.3 million for the COVID-19 Rapid Response Fund.
The Hellman Foundation has donated $200,000 — the largest contribution to the fund to date.
The fund will provide money for feeding families, distance learning and cleaning facilities, among other initiatives, district officials said.
WCCUSD Superintendent Matthew Duffy said in a statement:
“This crisis has exposed significant disparity and need. The resources being gathered will help provide much needed resources to provide healthy meals, ensure learning continues while school buildings are closed and help families financially.”
