San Rafael man faces six felony arson counts

Police in San Rafael on Thursday arrested a suspect in connection with several morning arson fires.

James Thomas Duffy, 42, of San Rafael, was arrested on suspicion of five counts of felony arson and one count of felony arson to an inhabited dwelling, according to the San Rafael Police Department.

Police and firefighters on Thursday morning between 5:17 a.m. and 5:49 a.m. responded to a series of fires in the Canal Neighborhood on San Rafael that were determined to be purposefully set.

The fires included several that were set in dumpsters and one that was set inside Duffy’s apartment, police said.

No one was injured in the apartment fire.

Duffy was later located and taken into custody.

Police said investigators determined he set a total of six separate fires.
