Police chase down man in stolen box truck suspected in string of burglaries

Police in Fremont on Wednesday arrested a burglary suspect in connection with several crimes following a pursuit through several cities.

Andrew Beck, 34, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property, hit and run, felony evading and resisting arrest, according to the Fremont Police Department.

On Wednesday at 8:49 p.m., a victim reported his home had been burglarized the day before, and he told police the suspect had used a large Penske box truck.

The victim told police he had located the truck parked at the Mission Valley Shopping Plaza.

Police determined the truck had been stolen out of Union City.

As officers were responding, they learned the same vehicle was suspected to be involved in a series of recent burglaries in Fremont.

When officers located the truck and attempted to pull it over, the driver refused to stop and led officers on a pursuit through Fremont, Union City, Hayward and into San Leandro.

In San Leandro, the suspect, later identified as Beck, collided into another vehicle at the intersection of Bancroft and Juana avenues.

Beck tried to flee the collision on foot, but he was apprehended by a police K9 unit.

He was transported to the hospital for injuries he suffered during his arrest.

The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.
