Monterey calls on public for first responder N95 masks

The city of Monterey is asking the public for donations of N95-rated masks for use by first responders amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Starting Wednesday, donations can be dropped off in front of the Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce at 353 Camino El Estero as long as the masks are new and sealed in unopened packaging.

The masks will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays through April 10, according to the city.

Monterey Fire Chief Gaudenz Panholzer said in a news release:

“First responders, just like medical personnel, need masks and other safety supplies during this health crisis.”

Panholzer said:

“Your generous donations of spare masks will help ensure the safety of our personnel and residents, and help stop the spread of the virus in our community.”

Anyone with supplies to donate who cannot come to the dropoff site can call the city at (831) 646-3760 to arrange for a pickup.
