The Napa County Sheriff’s Office has identified a motorcycle driver who died in a crash Saturday afternoon as John Wayne Bauer Jr., 57, of Santa Rosa.
Bauer was driving north of Butts Canyon Road near Snell Valley Road in rural unincorporated Napa County around 4:40 p.m. when he veered off the road and down an embankment, California Highway Patrol Officer Marc Renspurger said.
Paramedics performed life-saving methods but Bauer was pronounced dead at the scene, Renspurger said. Napa County sheriff’s spokesman Henry Wofford said Bauer was pronounced dead at 5:11 p.m.
The sheriff’s office was informed Bauer was at a bar before the crash, and Bauer’s next of kin said he had a prior history of motorcycle wrecks, Wofford said.
