Police investigate death of man found in slough as homicide

The death of a man whose body was found in a slough in East Oakland on Tuesday morning is being investigated as a homicide, police said.

Officers who were dispatched to the 4800 block of Oakport Street at about 8:40 a.m. Tuesday to investigate a report of a body floating in the East Creek Slough found the man in the water and he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

The man’s name is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.

Oakland police said homicide officers are investigating the man’s death and anyone who has information about it should call them at (510) 238-3821.
