A Fairfield man who was involved in a collision on westbound Interstate Highway 80 died Saturday when he got out of his vehicle and was struck by several vehicles, the California Highway Patrol said.
Luis Perez Vazquez, 34, of Fairfield, was driving erratically on I-80 east of Travis Boulevard in Fairfield around 8:50 p.m. when he collided with a vehicle and struck the center median wall, according to the CHP.
Vazquez then got out of his vehicle and was struck by another vehicle, throwing him into the eastbound lanes of Highway 80 where several other vehicles struck him. Only two drivers were contacted and are cooperating with the collision investigation, the CHP said.
Vazquez was pronounced dead at 9:04 p.m. and it appears alcohol may be a factor in the initial collision, according to the CHP.
Anyone who witnessed the collisions is asked to call the CHP at (707) 428-2100.
