Crews gain control of fast-moving structure fire that burned tires, pallets

San Jose fire officials said a four-alarm fire that started Tuesday afternoon is under control.

The fire was first reported at 2:34 p.m. in the 1700 block of South 10th Street.

Fire spokesperson Erica Ray said it appears the fire started in a structure and spread to another business where it burned some pallets and tires.

She said:

“It spread pretty quickly.”

Firefighters will probably be at the site until about 7 p.m. to make sure the tires and pallets don’t ignite again.

Ray said:

“Obviously those can stay pretty warm.”

Some businesses nearby were evacuated. No homes were threatened because no homes were nearby.

People were urged to avoid the area as the fire caused a lot of smoke.
