A woman struck by a San Francisco Department of Public Works truck Sunday morning in the city’s Tenderloin neighborhood died as a result of her injuries, department officials confirmed.
The collision happened around 7:25 a.m. near the corner of Taylor and Geary streets, police said.
A street cleaning worker driving a pickup truck struck the victim, described by police as a 67-year-old woman. She was taken to a hospital, where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
Acting Public Works Director Alaric Degrafinried issued a statement Monday morning in response to the collision.
He said:
“On behalf of San Francisco Public Works, I want to extend our profound condolences to the family and friends of the person who was fatally struck by one of our vehicles in the Tenderloin. Her death is tragic. We will continue to work with police investigators on this case, as we also review our internal safe-driving procedures and training. The safety of members of the public and our employees is our No. 1 priority at Public Works.”
The city’s medical examiner’s office was not immediately available to release the identity of the victim.
