Santa Clara Fire Station 8 reopens

The Santa Clara Fire Department reopened its Fire Station 8 on Monday after a nine-month closure for renovations.

The New York-based real estate firm Related Companies completed the renovation project that added a new dormitory wing, gender-neutral bathrooms, a fitness room, a workshop and a storage room to the fire station, located at 2400 Agnew Road. Related Companies picked up the entirety of the $2.2 million renovation bill, according to the fire department.

The department also announced that it will close Fire Station 10, located at 5111 Stars & Stripes Drive, by this Sunday in preparation to relocate it. Related Companies is also paying for the $15 million construction and relocation of Fire Station 10.

The activity is part of the first phase of Related Companies’ 240-acre Related Santa Clara development, which is scheduled to break ground later this year. The multi-use development, adjacent to Levi’s Stadium, will have office and residential space as well as dining and retail options.

During Fire Station 10’s closure, SCFD’s Engine 90 and its three crewmembers will respond from Fire Station 8. The fire department expects to maintain its target response times during the station’s closure.

A timeline for the station’s relocation and construction, scheduled during Related Santa Clara’s second phase, has yet to be set, according to the fire department.
