Suspect in custody after two police pursuits over two days

Police on Tuesday morning arrested a 33-year-old suspect, who had eluded them the day before, taking him into custody following a crash near Washington Hospital in Fremont.

Marquice McClinton didn’t pull over Monday when officers attempted to serve a warrant, police said. Officers followed him on a short pursuit, but called off the chase.

He did the same thing on Tuesday when officers spotted him and again tried to pull him over, about 7:45 a.m., Fremont police said in a post on Twitter.

McClinton once again led them on a short chase through city streets, but this time he crashed into a parked car at Mowry Avenue and Civic Center Drive after officers disabled his vehicle, according to police.

McClinton was taken into custody on suspicion of multiple weapons violations, assault with a deadly weapon and evading.

He was medically cleared at a local hospital and taken to Santa Rita Jail. No other injuries were reported, but one patrol car had minor damage, police said.

The crash and investigation temporarily closed eastbound lanes of Mowry Avenue, between Paseo Padre Parkway and Civic Center Drive, police said.
