Pair of Union City homicide victims were 14, 11 years old

Union City police said the two victims of an early Saturday morning shooting were juveniles, ages 11 and 14, killed as they sat inside a van parked near Searles Elementary School.

The shooting was reported about 1:30 a.m. in a parking lot at the school, in a residential neighborhood near Sherman and Colgate drives, according to Union City police.

The 14-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene; the other victim died en route to a local hospital, police said. Police said they will not release the victims’ names because they were minors.

No suspects have been arrested and police said that Sherman Drive, between Colgate Drive and 15th Street, would be closed for several hours for the investigation.

These were Union City’s first two homicides of 2019, police said.
