Twelve-acre North Orinda prescribed burn continues Saturday

A prescribed burn will continue Saturday at an area east of the San Pablo Reservoir, officials said.

CAL Fire, the East Bay Municipal Utility District and the Moraga-Orinda Fire District are taking advantage of the cooler weather to complete the prescribed burn, which started Friday.

The 12-acre burn area is about a mile northwest of Briones Dam and is part of the North Orinda shaded fuel break.

The burn, aimed to reduce heavy vegetation fuel load and promote the regeneration of native oaks, will start about 10 a.m. and should be finished by 5 p.m.

The project is being coordinated with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to minimize smoke impacts.

Residents of Sleepy Hollow, Manzanita and Monte Vista neighborhoods should close doors and windows if they smell smoke, fire officials said.
