Four small earthquakes struck near San Jose Monday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The first struck at 5:16 p.m. and was a preliminary magnitude 2.8 quake. It was located about 2.3 miles north-northeast of Alum Rock.
The second struck at about the same location at 5:21 p.m. and was a preliminary magnitude 2.5 temblor.
Two smaller quakes, magnitudes 1.2 and 1.4, followed within seconds of each other at 5:45 p.m.
