Three people were rescued by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter Dolphin from a capsized fishing boat near Bodega Bay, Calif. Saturday, November 9, 2019. The search has been suspended for a fourth missing man.
The U.S. Coast Guard rescued three people Saturday from a fishing boat that capsized about 30 miles northwest of Bodega Bay, but have suspended their search for a fourth man.
The Coast Guard was notified about the distressed boat about 5:30 p.m. Saturday via an emergency position-indicating radio beacon from the 54-foot Miss Hailee.
A ship, motor lifeboat and helicopter were dispatched after attempts to contact the boat by radio were unsuccessful and at 6:50 p.m. the crew of the helicopter Dolphin located and rescued three people in the water.
The search for the fourth man, who was reportedly wearing a life jacket, continued overnight, but was suspended Sunday after covering some 368 square miles over 16 hours.
Capt. Marie Byrd, the Coast Guard Sector San Francisco commander, said in a statement:
“The decision to suspend a search is extremely difficult and our thoughts are with the missing man and his family at this time.”
