The plot thickens Friday over who will become San Francisco’s next district attorney. Chesa Boudin, the criminal justice reformer candidate, has pushed Breed-appointed Interim DA Suzy Loftus back into second place with a 156-vote lead.
The Department of Elections reported Friday afternoon that Boudin’s vote count reached 78,809, while Loftus slips behind with 78,653.
Early Tuesday election results had Boudin ahead by less than 2,000 votes, but later ranked-choice adjustments and ballot counts repositioned Loftus at the top until Friday.
John Artnz, director of the Department of Elections, said approximately 15,500 ballots remain uncounted. Of those, 1,500 are mail-in ballots and 14,000 are from provisional or conditional voters.
Democratic socialist Dean Preston leads incumbent Supervisor Vallie Brown in the District 5 supervisor’s race by 35 votes.
Artnz said there are still 2,107 provisional District 5 ballots to be processed.
