PG&E delivered a massive generator to power the Vallejo, Calif. Cordelia raw water pump station that was impacted by the most recent Public Safety Power Shutoff. The city lifted a water use restriction Monday, October 28, 2019 after the generator was installed. It will remain in place until the extreme wind and power shutoff threats have passed.
The city of Vallejo on Monday lifted restrictions on water use after PG&E delivered a generator capable of powering the city’s Cordelia raw water pump station, the City Manager’s Office said.
Sufficient raw water is being pumped into the Vallejo water system for treatment, and residents dropped their water use from 16.8 million to 12 million gallons of water in a 24-hour period, city officials said.
The city issued a mandatory water conservation notice in response to PG&E’s Public Safety Power Shutoff, which impacted Vallejo’s ability to pump raw water to reservoirs for treatment.
The city also was concerned about another anticipated power shutoff throughout later this week, with another wind event forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday.
The generator was delivered on a semi-truck with double trailers and was wired into the water system by PG&E. The generator will remain in place until the wind events and shutoffs are over.
