Lafayette evacuations expand as fire advances

A fast-moving fire has prompted an immediate evacuation order for the area south of Old Tunnel Road and between El Curtola Blvd and Pleasant Hill Road in Lafayette, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District announced.

People in the area should leave now and go to Springhill Elementary School at 3301 Springhill Road in Lafayette, the district said.

The district said:

“Take only those essential items you have ready and can carry with you. Pets must be in a carrier or on a leash. Lock your windows and doors as you leave.”

“Stay off the phone unless you need to report a life-threatening emergency at your location.”

Those physically unable to leave home unassisted, call 911 for help.

Calls came in around the same time Sunday afternoon for a fire near Highway 24 at Pleasant Hill and Condit roads and a fire on the north side of Highway 24 at Camino Diablo, the spokesman said.

There were reports of downed power lines at both locations. In addition, a downed tree is restricting vehicle access at Pleasant Hill and Condit roads.
