Vallejo police use Narcan to save woman from overdose

Vallejo police used the opioid reversal drug Narcan to save a woman’s life early Monday morning.

Officers were dispatched to Buss Street around 1 a.m. for a report of an unconscious woman. According to police, officers at the scene found a citizen performing CPR on the victim, only identified as a 32-year-old woman, but determined she was suffering from an overdose.

Police said the officers administered the Narcan on the woman and she was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Officers in California were allowed to administer the drug, also known as naloxone, under the passage of the Good Samaritan Act as Assembly Bill 635 in 2014. Vallejo police said its officers began training with Narcan in 2018 and began carrying it with them on duty in March of that year.
