Deputies find dead body, vehicle used in Pleasure Point kidnapping

What began Tuesday morning as a search for a 50-year-old kidnapping victim may now be a homicide investigation.

Around 3 a.m., Tushar Atre was kidnapped from his home in the Pleasure Point area of Santa Cruz County. He was last seen getting into his white BMW with California license plate No. 7CUG581, according to the sheriff’s office.

A Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said during a press conference held shortly after 12:30 p.m. that the BMW was located on Soquel San Jose Road around 10:00 a.m. Deputies discovered a body at the scene but did not provide the person’s identification or gender.

Officials say they are searching for two suspects but do not believe the public is at risk.
