Sonoma County cooling centers offer heat wave respite

Santa Rosa, Petaluma and Windsor are opening cooling centers for Sonoma County residents because of the heat wave in the region this week. In Santa Rosa, the Finley Community Center will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. both Tuesday and Wednesday and is located at 2060 W. College Ave.

The Windsor Senior Center at 9231 Foxwood Drive is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, and the Petaluma Community Center at 321 N. McDowell Blvd. will be open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Petaluma Fire Department said the city is not expected to be impacted by a possible PG&E public safety power shutoff Tuesday night through Wednesday morning to reduce the risk of wildfires. A decision on whether to shut off power is expected to be made by Tuesday afternoon.
