A woman who allegedly dragged another woman along the ground while trying to wrest away the victim’s purse was arrested Thursday by San Leandro police.
The robbery in progress was reported at 3:30 p.m. in the area of Estudillo and Bancroft avenues and seen by multiple witnesses. The attacker tried to grab the purse of a woman as she was walking. The woman resisted but fell to the ground and the attacker began dragging her and the woman let go of the bag.
The suspect then ran and got on an AC Transit bus that was leaving as witnesses pointed it out to officers.
Police units pulled the bus over and arrested 24-year-old Felicia Santos of Alameda. The woman’s purse was recovered.
San Leandro Police Lt. Isaac Benabou said in a news release:
“This violent suspect was located and apprehended with the public’s assistance.”
“The witnesses were able to call 9-1-1 and provided vital information that led to the suspect’s location and arrest.”
Santos was booked for robbery at San Leandro jail and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
