A driver suffered major injuries in a collision Saturday morning on northbound Highway 101 in Palo Alto near University Avenue, the California Highway Patrol said.
The crash, reported shortly after 8 a.m., occurred when a Land Rover rear-ended a Ford Focus that was traveling slowly in the far right lane, the CHP said.
The driver of the Focus, a man in his 20s, was taken to a hospital with major injuries after the crash. The Land Rover driver was not injured and stayed at the scene.
The three right lanes of the northbound freeway were blocked and the CHP issued an alert for heavy traffic.
The lanes are expected to reopen by 9 a.m., the CHP said.
