Treasure Island and Yerba Buena Island will experience temporary power outages this weekend due to an improvement project, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission announced Tuesday.
The service interruptions will occur between 4-5 a.m. Saturday and between 12-1 a.m. Sunday.
The Port of Oakland is performing maintenance and improvement work in the vicinity of the transmission cable that supplies power to the islands and requires a de-energization of the cable.
The islands will use on-island generators Saturday, but transitioning from the power grid to and from the generators will require the two separate one-hour interruptions.
Residents have received multilingual notices regarding the outage four times, and bulletins were posted at local gathering spots. Residents are also encouraged to sign up for AlertSF notifications by texting 94130 to 888-777 to receive emergency communications.
