A pair of nighttime burglaries of occupied homes in 24 hours has prompted Albany police to ask residents to review video of home security monitoring systems.
Both incidents happened on Aug. 2 and police said:
“[Both] appear to have been made through unsecured access points in the home.”
The first was at 2:50 a.m. on Taft Avenue, west of San Pablo Avenue, where an intruder entered a home, possibly through an unsecured door, but was frightened and fled southbound on Taft.
The second incident was at 11:25 p.m. the same day in the 500 block of Kains Avenue, when an intruder using a flashlight entered a home and woke the resident. When the resident called out, the person fled. The suspect descriptions in both incidents are similar: An adult male about 6 feet tall with a thin build and wearing dark clothing.
Residents who have camera security systems are asked to review video recorded between 10:30 p.m. Aug. 2 to 12:30 a.m. Aug. 3 to see if it shows someone matching the description. Any potentially useful video should be saved, police said.
In an announcement, the Albany Police Department said:
“We also encourage anyone who may have seen anything suspicious that could relate to these burglaries, in either area, to call the police department with the information.”
