Fire destroys barn, causes $100,000 in damage

A large barn was destroyed in a fire early Tuesday morning in unincorporated Knightsen in eastern Contra Costa County, fire officials said. Firefighters responded at 1:43 a.m. to the one-alarm fire at 4201 Knightsen Ave. and arrived to find a barn engulfed in flames, according to the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District.

A defensive fire attack was employed to protect adjacent structures, fire officials said.

The blaze is estimated to have caused $100,000 in damage. There were no reports of injuries or people displaced.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of this fire.
