Three lanes of southbound Interstate Highway 880 in Oakland were shut down Friday for emergency road repair because of a large hole in the highway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The large hole was noticed at about 11:30 a.m. on Highway 880 just south of the interchange with Interstate Highway 980. Vehicles had to swerve to avoid it and about a dozen vehicles ended up with flat tires, according to the CHP.
Three lanes were closed just before 3 p.m. for emergency road repair. As of about 4 p.m., repairs were ongoing.
