Cyclist, 50, identified in San Jose’s 26th fatal crash of 2019

A bicyclist killed in a car crash on Monday in San Jose has been identified as 50-year-old Johnny Chu of San Jose, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office.

He and another bicyclist were hit by a woman exiting a parking lot in a gray Chevrolet SUV at 7:43 a.m. in the area of Vistapark Drive at Capitol Expressway in South San Jose.

Both victims were transported to the hospital and Chu died shortly after. The other bicyclist sustained life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The fatal crash is the 26th this year.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officers, and is not suspected to have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol, police said.
