Oakland’s Planning and Building Department will extend its counter hours starting Tuesday to help accommodate those who work full time, according to the city.
Starting Tuesday, the Planning and Building counters on the second floor of 250 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza will be open from 4-7 p.m. on alternating Tuesdays. Customers using the extended service hours can also park for free in the building’s garage from 5-7 p.m.
The city said in a news release that the target audience for the extended hours is residential owners who are seeking permits for small-scale home additions or accessory dwelling units.
William Gilchrist, the city’s director of planning and building, said:
“We are looking at this as a chance to offer services to our community members who need to work with our staff face-to-face but may work full time or find it otherwise challenging to come in during regular business hours.”
The city is piloting the extended hours through the end of August.
