Two deputies injured in attack by inmate

Two Sonoma County sheriff’s deputies were injured Wednesday when an inmate attacked them in his Sonoma County Jail cell, the sheriff’s office said.

The deputies entered the cell of Sean Seeman, 27, during routine inspections around 10 a.m. when Seeman lunged at a deputy and tried to stab him in the head and neck area with a toothbrush that had been filed down to a point and wrapped with a cloth handle, the sheriff’s office said. The deputy blocked Seeman’s hand and shoved him away and the weapon flew out of Seeman’s hand.

The deputies then pinned Seeman to the bed and other deputies responded and subdued Seeman, the sheriff’s office said. The deputy Seeman allegedly intended to stab suffered a large bruise to the side of his body, and the other deputy complained of pain. Both deputies were treated at a hospital and released.

Seeman was in jail in connection with an attack on a female barista at a coffee shop in Forestville in July 2018.

The victim said Seeman held a sharp piece of scrap metal to her neck and tried to force her into a bathroom. A witness to the attack held Seeman to the ground until deputies arrived at the coffee shop, the sheriff’s office said.

Seeman was booked in the jail Wednesday on additional charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon against a peace officer, obstructing a peace officer with violence and manufacture of a weapon by an inmate, the sheriff’s office said.

Seeman is scheduled to be arraigned on the new charges Friday afternoon in Sonoma County Superior Court.
