Armed suspect surrenders peacefully after store standoff

A standoff in which an armed man barricaded himself inside of a convenience store Sunday afternoon has ended, Fairfield police said, with no one injured and the suspect taken into custody.

Police were called at approximately 1:30 p.m. Sunday to a convenience at Pittman Road and Central Way in the Cordelia area near the Interstate Highway 80/680 split, police said, where the person holed up inside the store. The Fairfield Police SWAT team, along with crisis negotiators, were brought to the scene.

The suspect, thus far not publicly identified, surrendered peacefully to police shortly before 3 p.m. No hostages were taken. Fairfield police said they expect to release more information later Sunday.
