Suspect causes wrong-way major injury crash in police pursuit

Two people were hospitalized after a driver suspected of being under the influence crashed into another car on Seaport Boulevard in Redwood City on Tuesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol. Officers started chasing the suspect at 11:41 a.m. on U.S. Highway 101 for allegedly speeding and unsafely switching lanes before the suspect caused the collision by driving in the wrong direction.

The suspect was hospitalized with major injuries. A victim in the other vehicle also had minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. The suspect, whose name is not yet being released, was booked on suspicion of DUI, and a blood draw is needed to confirm more details, CHP spokesman Officer Art Montiel said.
