Police say suspect fatally shot three women, one man before killing himself

A male suspect fatally shot three women and a man before killing himself during a standoff at a home in San Jose overnight, police said Monday.

Officers initially responded at about 8:40 p.m. Sunday to reports of shots fired at a home in the 500 block of Habbitts Court near the Los Lagos Golf Course southeast of downtown San Jose, according to police. The first arriving officers found several family members fleeing the house and were told that the suspect had shot at least one person and possibly others in the home, police said.

Officers with the Police Department’s Special Operations Division responded and used an armored vehicle to rescue a man and woman from the home. They were taken to nearby hospitals and both died shortly afterward, according to police.

Two other women and the suspect remained inside the home, and at about 1:25 a.m. Monday, officers went in and found the three dead from gunshot wounds.

Police said the suspect shot the four victims before killing himself. The names of the victims and suspect have not yet been released by the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office.

The four homicides bring San Jose’s total to 19 this year. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Detective Sgt. T.J. Lewis or Detective Brian Meeker at (408) 277-5283. People wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (408) 947-7867.
