Jury convicts man on four counts of sexual assault against minor

A Solano County Superior Court jury convicted a man Thursday of four counts of sexual assault between 2001 and 2003, the Solano County District Attorney’s Office said.

Khary Je-Von Cook, 38, of Suisun City, was convicted on two counts of forcible lewd acts with a child under 14 years old, one of which caused great bodily injury, and two counts of forcible rape.

Cook raped a 13-year-old girl in 2001 in his home and threatened the victim and her family in order to sustain the attacks against her, the district attorney’s office said. The threats included references to his alleged gang affiliations and physical harm done to others.

The victim estimated Cook sexually assaulted her 15-20 times and she became pregnant, according to the district attorney.

Cook went into custody on an unrelated case and he resurfaced in 2003 when the victim, now in the 10th grade, was living with her family in Fairfield. He resumed contact with the victim and again used force and fear to have sexual intercourse with her on numerous occasions before he was taken into custody again, the district attorney’s office said.

Cook’s last contact with the victim was in 2005 when he tried to have sex with her in a parked vehicle with her child present at the Solano Town Center in Fairfield, officials said. The girl convinced him to leave the vehicle.

When the girl learned Cook was under investigation by Fairfield police for allegedly raping another young woman, she came forward in March 2017, and testified at Cook’s recent trial, according to the district attorney’s office.

Cook’s sentencing date will be set after a trial Friday related to alleged previous strike convictions for first-degree burglary in 2000 and 2009 and two prior convictions and imprisonment on weapons charges in 2004 and 2005.

If the prior strike convictions are affirmed by judge, they could add to Cook’s sentence for the sexual assaults. Cook is being held in Solano County Jail on $3 million bail.
