Mission Boulevard in Fremont has reopened after a fatal hit-and-run reported earlier Wednesday, police said.
Officers responded around 5:25 a.m. to a report of a collision between a motorcyclist and a vehicle.
Based on an initial investigation, police believe the motorcyclist was traveling west on Mission Boulevard and as he approached the intersection with Brown Road, a vehicle driving in the eastbound lanes turned left and struck him in the westbound lanes, then drove away, according to police. Police said the motorcyclist, a man believed to be a San Jose resident in his 20s, succumbed to his injuries shortly after 9 a.m. His name has not yet been released.
The collision prompted the closure of Mission Boulevard as well as the off-ramp from southbound Interstate Highway 680 to the thoroughfare. Investigators contacted the registered owner of the vehicle that hit the motorcyclist and a second person at a motel room near the collision site, according to police.
More details about the pair were not immediately available, but police said alcohol and/or drugs are being investigated as possible factors in the collision.
