Hayward police clear officer-involved shooting scene, details vague

Hayward police have provided very little information about an officer-involved shooting that occurred in their city early Tuesday morning, but said their officers have cleared the scene of the initial investigation. Police responded initially at 12:45 a.m. to a call in the 2500 block of West Winton Avenue where officers opened fire.

Roughly 13 hours later, at 1:45 p.m., police notified the public that a section of roadway that had closed to accommodate their investigation at the scene had been reopened.

One suspect is in custody, but as of mid-morning a search was still ongoing in Oakland for one or more others in the area of Bancroft Avenue and Link Street. The suspect or suspects were presumed to be armed. Police have not yet provided an update on that search, or any substantive details about the shooting that preceded it. No officers were injured, however.
