Carmel teen’s hard work pays off with Barcelona ballet apprenticeship

A ballet student from the Carmel Academy of Performing Arts in Carmel-by-the-Sea has received an apprenticeship from the prestigious Ballet de Catalunya in Spain.

Alexandra Huffman, also known as Wen Wen, will take the trainee position at Ballet de Catalunya in Barcelona in August.

Huffman, who was adopted from China when she was 17 months old by a Carmel couple, said she’s looking forward to the apprenticeship.

In a statement, Huffman said:

“It gives me the opportunity to dance in what I consider the center of dance, Europe.”

Huffman started taking dance lessons at the Carmel Academy of Performing Arts when she was 3 years old.
