Crews stop forward progress on Concord fire, 80 percent contained

Crews have stopped the forward progress of a brush fire that has burned 25 acres south of state Highway 4 in Concord on Monday morning, according to Cal Fire.

Cal Fire officials initially wrote on Twitter at about 10:50 a.m. about the Willow Fire, which is burning near Willow Pass Road and Lynwood Drive south of Highway 4.

The state fire agency provided an update about an hour later, saying the fire was 50 percent contained with forward progress stopped. Contra Costa County Fire Protection District officials then wrote minutes later to say the fire is considered 80 percent contained.

Structures were initially being threatened by the fire, but are no longer in danger. Smoke from the blaze has spread to other areas such as Lafayette, Orinda and Moraga, county fire officials said.
