Coroner identifies man killed after walking into highway traffic

The Solano County coroner’s office has identified a man who was killed when he walked into traffic on Interstate Highway 80 Sunday afternoon as 65-year-old Charles Edwards.

The California Highway Patrol said Edwards was a resident of Rodeo.

Edwards was struck by a vehicle around 3:10 p.m. in an eastbound lane of the highway just east of the Interstate Highway 780 interchange and west of Benicia Road, according to the CHP.

A 23-year-old Sacramento man whose vehicle struck Edwards stayed at the scene. Edwards was pronounced dead at 3:14 p.m., the coroner’s office said. The CHP said drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision.

Anyone with information is asked to call the CHP at (707) 428-2100 or (800) TELL-CHP.
