Two men were detained after allegedly driving over a woman in Santa Cruz Wednesday evening and fleeing the scene, leaving police to find her pinned underneath their car in critical condition, according to police. Police officers and firefighters responded to the area of Cedar and Maple streets at 7:12 p.m. Wednesday to investigate a possible hit-and-run.
Firefighters immediately administered medical treatment to the 55-year-old woman, a Santa Cruz resident who was lying in the middle of the road pinned underneath a car, while police searched the area. A suspect was seen jumping fences and running north towards Cathcart Street. Police eventually detained him along with another man, both residents of Watsonville. Their names were not immediately released. One of the men police detained was the registered owner of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian.
Emergency crews brought the woman to a trauma center for treatment of her injuries.
