A man died Tuesday afternoon in Oakland after passing out while driving, drifting into oncoming traffic, then striking a car parked on the opposite curb, according to police.
Oakland police responded to a report of a vehicle crash at 40th Street and Telegraph Avenue at 12:45 p.m.
Police were notified that the driver had been traveling north on Telegraph with his mother in the passenger seat and then drifted into the southbound lanes before hitting a car at the west curb.
Upon arrival, officers shifted the car into neutral and pushed it about 10 feet so that they could access the driver. They then cut his seatbelt, dragged him out of the vehicle and immediately started CPR. The driver, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead just after 1:30 p.m. at a hospital.
